A walk around Zamosc

Do you know that the saying "Swedish table" comes from Zamosc?

In 1656, the Swedish king Charles X Gustaf, wanting to save himself the hardships of besieging Zamość  he asked Jan Sobiepan Zamoyski for a meal, wanting at the same time to persuade him to surrender the city. The ordinate received the king outside the walls, a lavishly set table, but - for the sake of despising the king - without chairs. From then on, standing parties were called "smorgasbord".

Zamosc  it is one of the oldest and most beautiful  Polish cities. In 2020 it was celebrating  440 years.

Although the local monuments are several hundred years old, they are perfectly restored. Being  among them is a real pleasure.

The entire Zamość can be visited on foot in one day. By the way, you can  eat delicious too. We've been to 3 pubs and the food in each of them was fantastic.

Old Town in Zamość

The old town in Zamość is colorful, full of small restaurants, with a beautiful market square over which the town hall proudly reigns, which it obtained during the reconstruction in the 18th century.
In summer, at noon, the bugle call is played on the town hall tower, but according to tradition, it is played in three directions. The direction of Krakow is omitted, because apparently Jan Zamoyski, the founder of the city of Zamość, did not like Krakow and forbade trumpets in its direction.

Viewpoint

The vantage point is located on the bell tower of the cathedral. The belfry is 47m high and the observation deck is in the middle, but the view is still very pleasant.

Rector's pharmacy

On the market square in Zamość, you can visit the oldest pharmacy in Poland, which has been operating continuously since 1609. The pharmacy is tiny, in a historic tenement house. It's a pity not to come here while in Zamość.

Monuments of Zamość

Zamość is actually one great monument. There are historical areas around the city  fortifications: 3  bastions, podszaniec,  Water Gate and Curtain. They are antique  gates and tunnels. And everything renovated and tidy. And discreetly  combined with elements of modernity - atmospheric lighting, walking paths.

The Rotunda is also a famous monument in Zamość.  A fortress on a circular plan, erected in the years 1825-1831. It was built on an island surrounded by swamps and backwaters, 500 meters from the walls of the Zamość fortress. Unfortunately, the Rotunda is currently under renovation and will be available to visitors from October 2020.

City park

Right next to the old town, in the center of Zamość, there is a beautiful city park. The park was established at the beginning of the 20th century. Elements of fortifications were used in its creation, which gives the park a unique atmosphere.

Padlock bridge

In line with the new trends, Zamość could not miss a romantic place where those in love can symbolically show their undying love. So there is a bridge over the tracks on which couples in love hang their padlocks.
