Roys Peak
A mountain in New Zealand by Lake Wanaka. 1578 m e.g
The route is approx. 16 km long and it takes time to walk approx. 6-8 hours.
The slope is unshaded, so be sure to wear a hat and apply sunscreen.
But first of all enjoy the beautiful views and inhale the crystal clear air.
Uphill
Roys Peak is climbed along a gentle, winding path, approx. 3-4 hours. There are no trees so no shade. It is worth protecting yourself from the sun (caps, creams) and you must take a lot of water with you. On the way to the top there are no shops and no toilets. Only at the very top, on the observation deck just below the summit, there is a small shop and the only toilet.
Natural "observation deck"
The natural "observation deck" is approx. 0.5 h. road ahead of the peak. Most tourists end their trek here. Further it is steeper and more narrow. There is a tiny shop and a toilet.
Roys Peak
Roys Peak (1578 m) is a relatively small area. Only a few people can be accommodated there. But the views are breathtaking, so it's worth coming here even for a moment.
Now down.
You go down the same way you go up. Of course it's easier to go down than to go up, but your knees hurt anyway. It takes about 3 hours to go.
