Te Puia

Te Puia is a geothermal park near the town of Rotorua. There is  completely different from Wai-O-Tapu, so we recommend visiting both places.
In Te Puia  we can meet indigenous Maori people. Find out a lot of interesting information about their history and culture.
We can also have a look at the largest geyser in New Zealand -  Pōhutu Geyser.
The lucky ones can also see the famous New Zealand Kiwi, that is, in Te-Puia  birds found only in New Zealand.

Maori open-air museum

In Te Puia you can see how the native Maori lived and lived.
There are plenty of hand-made beautiful carved ornaments and tools.
Unfortunately, most of them are very expensive.
You can also get a commemorative tattoo here that will be made  personally by the Maori.

A cultural evening in Te Puia

Tickets to Te Puia are available in different variants.
We chose the Te Ra + Te Po (Day Pass + Indigenous Evening Experience) option which includes:  visiting a Maori village,  a visit to the Kiwi House,  tasting Maori dishes,  Maori cultural performance,  the possibility of admiring  active  geyser  Pohutu at sunset.

Pohutu geyser

The Pohutu Geyser is the largest geyser in New Zealand.
Shoots water up to 20-30 meters, multiple times a day.
It looks especially attractive during sunset.

Kiwi House

Hmm ... has anyone seen a kiwi bird in NZ? If so, show off your photos. We haven't even seen kiwi at the Kiwi House :-).
Kiwi House is a house in Te Puia where a few kiwis live.
So we and all the other visitors hoped that we would finally see the kiwi with our own eyes.
Unfortunately it was not possible.
